Road bikes are experiencing a bit of a renaissance in America today. Once the most commonly ridden type of bike; the introduction of the mountain bike largely pushed these bikes out of the spotlight. However, in recent years the growing popularity of bicycle racing has spurred a resurgence of interest in these lightweight racing machines.
Road bikes, like most other quality bikes nowadays, can be a bit expensive. For a typical starter bike, one can usually expect to pay at least 500 dollars at the very least. In most cases, they are often more expensive than that.
Competition quality road bikes, by comparison, can cost several thousand dollars just to get started. These bikes are often made from high-tech carbon fiber materials and are designed for speed. However, for the average recreational cyclist, these bikes tend to be a bit of overkill.
